About this club
Delta Deas Rowing Club is based at 6090 Deas Island Road in Deas Island Regional Park, Delta. Members train throughout the year on the sheltered Deas Slough, which also hosts the club's regattas and community events.
The first rowing event on the slough was the British Columbia Championships in May 1986. Olympic rowers Lyle Gatley, Joy Fera and Bill McKerlich then worked with other volunteers to form the society, which incorporated on 3 December 1986.
The club hosted the 1987 BC Summer Games and received permission to operate in the regional park in 1988. Construction of its boathouse began that March, with local students helping complete it for the 1989 BC Youth Championships.
Facilities later grew through a dock expansion in 1995 and construction of a 1,500-square-foot boat shed. The club continued dock work in 2015 and remains a member in good standing of Rowing Canada Aviron.
Current masters provision includes learn-to-row, a three-month novice transition, recreational Row-for-Life and a competitive opt-in. The club also offers year-round junior rowing, small-group coaching and para programming on request.
Delta Deas has hosted its May high-school regatta for more than two decades. The 2026 Scholastic Regatta was a 1,000-metre event focused on novice and junior-varsity development, while its Adult Rowing League combines short races in doubles through eights with both sculling and sweep development.
