About this club
Club d'aviron Lac Brome is the current name of the club formerly known as Aviron Knowlton Rowing. Its official announcement says the organisation itself is unchanged, while the new name is intended to represent a wider Lac-Brome community. The club rows on Lac Brome and runs activity at Douglass Beach.
The roots of the project include a high-performance camp held at Knowlton in April 2016 for 17 athletes, five coaches and two kinesiologists. The former club site says Aviron Knowlton began in 2017 with four borrowed boats and space loaned by the marina.
By its 2025 season update, the club reported ten singles, a quad, its own dock and a tent. It was also fundraising and beginning work towards a permanent headquarters, with the organisation still relying heavily on member volunteers.
The current programme includes discovery and initiation courses, independent rowing and Come and Try sessions. Its Come and Try format provides coaching, volunteer support and equipment for a free introductory session on Lac Brome.
The club has also worked with the Salamander Camp at Douglass Beach to provide children's rowing as part of a four-day-per-week waterfront programme.
A 2018 local report identified 55 club rowers and three high-performance athletes connected with the programme. Gabby Smith took second in the women's double sculls at World Cup III, Marilou Duvernay-Tardif placed fifth in the women's quad at the World Rowing Under 23 Championships, and Anna Burnotte's women's quad reached the A final at the World Rowing Junior Championships.
