About this club
Club d’aviron de l’Université de Montréal is a university rowing organisation for students and staff of Université de Montréal, HEC Montréal and Polytechnique Montréal. It trains at the Olympic Basin on Île Notre-Dame in Parc Jean-Drapeau and describes itself as North America's first francophone university rowing team.
Jeanne Dumoulin, Benoit Morency, Valentin Hay and Guillaume A. Callonico created the club in summer 2008. Montreal Rowing Club supplied equipment and facilities in 2008-09, before the university club returned to the basin with its own boats and installations in 2014.
A recreational programme began in 2011-12 with the purchase of an eight and a coxed four. Current provision includes competitive, summer development and corporate programmes, with novice, junior-varsity and varsity groups for the autumn racing season.
The novice pathway is open to students without previous competitive rowing experience. Crews train in team boats and race against Quebec, Ontario and American universities, while experienced athletes pursue national and international performance through the junior-varsity and varsity groups.
The club organised the Quebec ergometer championship in winter 2016 and reached its first university-championship A finals in 2019. It won its first championship title in 2022 with gold in the women's single and also took bronze in the lightweight men's single.
In 2025 the club won a second lightweight women's single title and placed both its lightweight men's and women's doubles in finals. Its published autumn calendar also included Head of the Rideau, Head of the Trent, the Dawson Invite and the Canadian University Rowing Championships.
