About this club
Fort Langley Community Rowing Club is an adult community club on the sheltered Bedford Channel between Fort Langley and Brae Island. It shares the Fort Langley boathouse with the University of the Fraser Valley rowing programme and Fort Langley Youth Rowing Society.
Rowers who had already been active at Fort Langley incorporated the club under British Columbia's Societies Act in February 2011. It is affiliated with Rowing BC and Rowing Canada Aviron.
The core membership is masters aged 21 and over, ranging from recreational participants to athletes training for sprint and head regattas. The club provides coached rowing for ten months of the year and dry-land training during the off-season.
Its learn-to-row pathway gives adults ten sessions in two stages. The first covers safety, the stroke on rowing machines and initial water experience; the second develops sculling, balance and crew skills in quadruple sculls before graduates enter the novice group.
Members pursue fitness, technique, speed and competition according to their own goals. The club's mission explicitly combines accessible recreational and competitive rowing with health, safety and cooperation across the local rowing community.
Fort Langley Community Rowing Club hosts Head of the Fort each spring on Bedford Channel. Rowing BC describes the 2026 edition as a 4.4-kilometre head race providing the Lower Mainland with a start-of-season racing opportunity.
