About this club
Fort Langley Youth Rowing Society, known as FLYRS, is a youth club on Bedford Channel serving grades 8 to 12 from Langley, Surrey and Abbotsford. Its boathouse stands beside the Fort to Fort Trail near Billy Brown Road in Fort Langley.
The programme began with summer learn-to-row sessions in 2009 after the Township of Langley built a boathouse and dock on Bedford Channel. A board was elected in May 2010, the society registered that August, and it joined Rowing BC and Rowing Canada Aviron before the end of the year.
FLYRS follows Rowing Canada Aviron's long-term athlete-development guidance. Its 12-month club programme combines autumn water training, winter ergometer and dry-land work, spring regatta preparation and daily weekday water sessions in summer.
The competitive group contains both first-year novices and varsity rowers preparing for university teams. One-week summer learn-to-row camps give teenagers a separate route into the club, with weekday sessions in July and August.
Its crews race in all three on-water seasons. The 2026 schedule includes Head of the Fort, Shawnigan Lake, Delta Deas Scholastic, Lap the Lake, BC Championships and autumn events in Burnaby, False Creek and Deep Cove.
At the 2024 Head of the Fort, FLYRS won the men's open pair, mixed open pair and men's junior single. In 2025 it entered five crews at the Rowing BC Provincial Championships, and in 2026 its athletes also ran the club's first community outreach collection for Foundry Langley.
