About this club
Fraser Valley Rowing Club is an Abbotsford rowing organisation based at 40110 Quadling Road, near the Barrowtown Pump Station. Its crews row the Sumas River and Sumas Canal in east Abbotsford. Rowing BC lists it among the province's Lower Mainland member organisations.
A 2016 club report described it as a volunteer-based non-profit providing equipment and instruction to people of all ages. At that time it ran learn-to-row courses with eight coached water sessions, plus recreational and competitive programmes. Members used singles, doubles and quads.
Flooding in November 2021 left both boathouses half-filled with water. The club reported destroyed boats, waterlogged coach-boat motors, damaged programme materials and mouldy safety equipment, while boats stored on higher racks survived.
During the rebuild, members used Fort Langley facilities and club president Emily Kivinen worked with Olympic champion Lisa Roman on growing awareness and membership. In May 2022 the club listed Learn to Row, Juniors and Masters among its programmes.
Rowing BC's 2023 awards record shows that volunteer David Marchioro coached all of the club's learn-to-row programmes for roughly a year and a half after the flood closure. The provincial body recognised him as an Outstanding Volunteer for helping the programme continue.
Rowing BC currently lists the club under Abbotsford, and Rowing Canada's 2025 annual report includes Fraser Valley in its member-organisation data.
