About this club
Gorge Narrows Rowing Club is a British Columbia non-profit rowing on the Gorge Waterway in Victoria. Its boathouse is south of the Selkirk Trestle beside the Galloping Goose Regional Trail, with offices at 105-2940 Jutland Road.
The organisation traces its roots to the Go Rowing & Paddling Association of Canada, which offered rowing, paddling and fitness at the site from 1996. Around 2014, GO transferred community rowing to St. Michaels University School while a separate club took over paddling and gym activity. Gorge Narrows became independent from the school in 2017 and has run community rowing programmes since then; both organisations still use the boathouse.
Its programme covers recreational, competitive, para and casual rowing for beginner and experienced adults and youth. The adaptive section supports people with physical, sensory or intellectual disabilities, with recreational and competitive routes, adapted equipment and group, private and masters options.
Experienced members race at regattas across Vancouver Island, while some travel to mainland Canada, the United States and Europe. The club received Rowing Canada Aviron's 2022 Club Outstanding Achievement of the Year Award for its Women On Water programme.
Gorge Narrows hosts Come Try Rowing days, club scrimmages, Quarts races and the Head and Tail of the Gorge. The latter draws teams from British Columbia, Alberta and the Pacific Northwest, with some travelling from the Maritimes or Europe; its next edition is scheduled for autumn 2027 after a 2026 pause.
The club's 2025 National Come Try Rowing Day registered 180 people and put 141 on the water. In May 2026, more than 85 people attended its Oars for Oceans event, held with Ocean Week Victoria and World Oceans Day and open to people with no rowing experience.
