About this club

Maple Bay Rowing Club is a Vancouver Island club based at 6735 Beaumont Avenue in North Cowichan. It rows on Maple Bay and uses Quamichan Lake for programmes and its annual junior regatta.

The club began in 1975 through the work of local founders, and it held its first regatta in 1976. Rowing BC records that club crews were winning provincial championships by the end of the 1970s.

Current programmes focus on juniors, masters and social rowers. Junior activity serves ages 12 to 18, while adult and masters members can row through the year; learn-to-row and coastal rowing are also listed.

Education is a stated priority, with beginner programmes structured to give individual attention before rowers progress towards independent water sessions. The club serves members from the mid-Vancouver Island area.

The club's competitive history includes masters participation at the World Rowing Masters Regatta. Rowing BC also names club alumni Braithwaite and Dunaway in its fiftieth-anniversary history.

Junior Agata Minka represented Canada at the 2024 World Rowing Under 19 Championships. At home, Maple Bay's annual junior regatta at Quamichan Lake remains a central event in the club calendar.
