About this club

Rockies Rowing Club is a Rowing BC member in Cranbrook. It teaches and trains on Jimsmith Lake, about ten minutes from the city, and Rowing Canada’s current come-and-try listing places the club at Rotary Park.

The club has rowed on Jimsmith Lake since 2001. By 2018 it had been expanding its fleet and membership and was offering access to club equipment and coaching during an on-water season running from early May to late October.

Current learn-to-row consists of six water-focused lessons covering equipment, boat handling, rowing individually and in a crew, course setting and starts. Equipment and personal flotation devices are provided, after which participants may move into recreational or competitive rowing.

Members can row for fitness or train for competition. The club teaches sculling first and has also developed sweep rowing; published plans have included regattas in British Columbia, Alberta and Idaho.

Rockies youth athletes raced at the 2019 Delta Deas Scholastic Regatta in singles, doubles and a composite quad. In 2018, a Rockies mixed double and junior women’s quad also earned medals at the Head of the Pend Oreille in Idaho.
