About this club
Salt Spring Island Rowing Club is a Rowing BC organisation on Salt Spring Island. Its current site places more than six decades of local rowing on St. Mary Lake and offers year-round activity for adults and young people.
Programmes include learn-to-row, youth rowing, adult rowing and coastal rowing. Experienced visiting rowers can also buy one, five or ten drop-in rows without taking a full membership.
The club’s young athletes train in a competitive programme whose crews race at national level each year. Its growing masters programme provides recreational and competitive rowing for adults. A 2025 row-a-thon raised $40,225 for the junior programme.
Salt Spring’s signature event is Race Around the Rock, an 88-kilometre coastal endurance relay. Adult, junior and mixed crews race a full circumnavigation of Salt Spring Island in coastal and open-water shells.
The event appears on Rowing BC’s regatta calendar as a coastal relay attracting rowers from British Columbia and beyond. The club’s current schedule lists the next Race Around the Rock for August 2026, with both crew and solo entry routes.
