Shawnigan Lake School Rowing is the school’s rowing programme on Shawnigan Lake, British Columbia. Rowing has been part of Shawnigan Lake School athletics since 1931.
The programme introduced the Shawnigan Regatta in 1962, and the event remains on the high-school racing calendar each May. It added the first Head of the Lake Regatta in 1981.
Students in Grades 8 to 12 can join as novices or experienced rowers. Junior athletes train in winter and spring, while senior athletes train across autumn, winter and spring; the programme progresses from learn-to-train through train-to-compete.
Facilities include direct lake access, a rowing crew house and docks, more than 40 ergometers, a high-performance weight room and a fleet of rowing shells. Shawnigan’s race calendar includes Canadian schools competition and selected international regattas.
The school says its rowing alumni include Olympic medallists and provincial and national-team athletes. An earlier programme history recorded more than 50 national titles across different boat classes.
Shawnigan has a formal partnership with Rowing Canada Aviron. National and Olympic team athletes train on the lake and, from 2025, use a dedicated training facility in the school Sportsplex.
