About this club
Simon Fraser University Rowing Club is a student-run competitive programme based at Burnaby Lake. The club is affiliated with Simon Fraser University and represents SFU at provincial and national rowing events.
SFU Rowing develops experienced athletes and recruits novices who have not rowed before. New rowers begin with ergometer technique and fitness work, then learn oar handling, stroke progression, boat handling and rowing terminology on Burnaby Lake.
The senior team is a high-performance club crew within the Canadian University Rowing Association. It trains on water from roughly late February to early December, with additional ergometer and strength sessions on the SFU Burnaby campus.
Senior athletes normally attend three or four regattas per term. The programme targets the Western Canadian University Rowing Championships and Canadian University Rowing Championships, while also racing at British Columbia events including Elk Lake, BC Championships and Burnaby Lake Small Boats.
The club raises money for equipment, coaching, travel and regatta fees because it receives limited university funding. Its first-party site identifies the organisation as a registered charity administered by a student executive board.
