About this club
St. George’s School runs a boys’ rowing programme for pupils in Grades 8 to 12. It is based at the John M.S. Lecky UBC Boathouse on the south arm of the Fraser River in Richmond, with dryland training also held on the Vancouver school campus.
The programme has novice, development and senior pathways. New rowers learn safety and the basic rowing skills, while returning athletes increase their technical and competitive work through training held across the school terms.
St. George’s crews race in the Lower Mainland, on Vancouver Island, in Washington State and at the Canadian Secondary Schools Rowing Association Championships in St. Catharines. The school also has an annual boat race with Vancouver College.
At the 2025 CSSRA championships, St. George’s won silver in the junior heavyweight eight and junior heavyweight four, plus bronze medals in three other events. Its 2024 results included gold in the junior 66kg quad and four further podium finishes.
The programme has also developed international athletes. Its current page lists Bennet Maijer in Canada’s junior men’s four at the 2025 Under-19 World Championships, alongside earlier school alumni who represented Canada at junior world level.
