Thunder Rowing Crew is the youth rowing programme based at the John M.S. Lecky UBC Boathouse in Richmond. UBC Recreation lists it alongside the UBC varsity and novice teams and St. George's School rowing at the same facility.
The boathouse stands at 7277 River Road on the Middle Arm of the Fraser River. UBC says the building opened on 30 September 2006 after five years of planning and construction, with four boat bays serving university, school and community rowing.
Thunder’s year-round pathway begins with learn-to-row or Fast Track, then moves through development and intermediate teams to junior competition. Intermediate athletes develop both sculling and sweep skills before racing in small boats.
Competitive juniors race locally and nationally. UBC lists the Head of the Fraser, Head of the Gorge and Elk, Shawnigan Lake Regatta, Canadian schools championship, BC Championships and Royal Canadian Henley among the programme’s events.
Rowing BC's 2024 provincial championship report records Thunder entries across U19 and U17 men's events, including singles, doubles, pairs, fours and an eight. Rowing BC's 2022 annual report recorded 95 participants under the Thunder Rowing Crew name.
