Victoria City Rowing Club is a not-for-profit club on Elk Lake in Victoria, British Columbia. Its address is 5100 Patricia Bay Highway, and Rowing BC lists it among the province's current rowing organisations.
The club's history traces organised rowing in Victoria through several earlier associations. In 1952, James Bay oarsmen moved their headquarters to the northwest corner of Elk Lake and called the new organisation Victoria City Rowing Club. The club says its boathouse operation moved to the present Elk Lake location in 1986.
VCRC runs introductory, recreational and competitive rowing. Adult Learn to Row courses operate monthly from March to September and comprise eight sessions, usually on Tuesday and Thursday evenings. The introductory offer also includes week-long half-day and full-day youth summer camps, plus private lessons and corporate sessions.
Its junior programme provides recreational and competitive rowing for ages 11 to 18, with no previous experience required. The club states goals of fostering a love of rowing, personal excellence, confidence and long-term activity, while developing young people as athletes and community leaders.
Adult members can choose full-year coached, seasonal coached or restricted membership. Restricted membership provides experienced rowers with independent water and equipment access, while the coached options include recreational and competitive sessions. Members who demonstrate the required safety and boat-handling skills can use club equipment and access the Victoria Rowing Society boathouse's ergs, lounge and showers.
Victoria City Rowing Club hosts the Elk Lake Spring Regatta. Rowing BC describes it as an early-season sprint for performance athletes and other rowers, drawing teams mainly from Vancouver Island and the Lower Mainland, with additional participation from the Pacific Northwest and Alberta.
