About this club
Cambridge Rowing Club is a community club at Riverbluffs Park on the Grand River in downtown Cambridge. Its own site welcomes people who are new to rowing as well as recreational and competitive rowers, and publishes river conditions and safety information for members.
The club was founded in 1987 by veterinarian Bruce Holliday and a small group of local rowing enthusiasts. Row Ontario records that its first base was an old garage at Riverbluffs Park, with members initially carrying boats between the garage and the river.
A donated Koch Transport tractor-trailer later gave the growing club more boat storage. Early members Mike Elmitt and Bill Ingraham helped establish a club whose primary focus became sculling, according to Row Ontario's club history.
The club offers learn-to-row instruction alongside recreational and competitive rowing. Row Ontario says the introductory programme typically serves about 40 participants each year, while experienced members can pursue either social rowing or competition.
The Grand River is central to the club's daily operation. The official site maintains a current river-status notice and a dedicated safety section, reflecting the practical decisions required before crews launch from Riverbluffs Park.
