About this club
Central Alberta Rowing Club is a non-profit club based at the north end of Lacombe Lake, about five kilometres south of Lacombe. The Alberta Rowing Association says it provides both recreational and competitive boats and programmes.
The club began in 2003 at Sylvan Lake with three boats. A 2018 local history says it later used private property at Lacombe Lake, approached Lacombe County in 2010 about a permanent home, and was offered an old road allowance in 2016.
By 2018 the fleet had grown to about 20 boats. Members redeveloped the county site and added temporary and prefabricated facilities, giving the club a base for its expanding activity on Lacombe Lake.
Current provincial listings divide participation into juniors aged 12 to 18, seniors aged 19 to 26 and masters aged 27 and over. The club offers June try-rowing sessions, a two-day learn-to-row course, refresher instruction and indoor winter training.
Its outreach has included work with local high schools, adult learn-to-row courses and a youth camp. The club also travels to provincial regattas, while its own indoor championship has become a substantial fixture.
In 2025 the club hosted the 20th Alberta Indoor Rowing Championships at the Abbey Centre in Blackfalds, with about 140 athletes. The Alberta Rowing Association reported a record 169 competitors at the 2026 edition, describing it as Canada's third-largest indoor rowing competition.
