About this club
Lakeland Rowing Club is based at the Vermilion River reservoir beside Vermilion Provincial Park. The club has a close relationship with Lakeland College and supports the college's Rustlers rowing programme.
The organisation was established in 1996 after Peter Walsh identified an opportunity to develop rowing at the college. Alberta Rowing credits him with helping create the club, establish its boathouse and coach the Rustlers.
The club offers learn-to-row, recreational rowing, light competition and a full competitive stream. Its provincial profile says rowers have travelled to races in Saskatoon, Calgary, Edmonton, Regina and British Columbia.
Lakeland College support has been central to the programme's operation. Walsh served as club president until 2015 and continued contributing after stepping down from that office.
The Head of Vermilion has been part of the club's event programme. A race poster for the club's twentieth anniversary advertised a three-kilometre head race on the Vermilion water.
The Town of Vermilion's current community directory continues to list the rowing club. Its active provincial profile and municipal listing support treating Lakeland as a current club despite the lack of a standalone website.
