About this club
Edmonton Rowing Club is a non-profit organisation at Buena Vista Park, rowing on the North Saskatchewan River. Its boathouse and indoor training centre are at 8438 129 Street NW in Edmonton's river valley.
The club was founded in 1974 to develop rowing across Greater Edmonton. The Alberta Rowing Association says its programmes serve participants from teenagers to seniors and combine coaching, safe equipment, youth development and community activity.
Beginners can enter through a single-day introduction or a six-lesson learn-to-row course. The longer course starts on rowing machines and in the indoor tank before moving to crew boats on the river, with separate adult and junior pathways.
Year-round provision includes juniors, senior and masters competition, and non-competitive Sport and Recreation rowing. The river season continues into mid-October, after which coached ergometer, strength, endurance and cross-training sessions maintain the club through winter.
Edmonton crews race across Western Canada and at longer head races in British Columbia and Saskatchewan. At the 2025 Western Canada Sprints in Regina, club athletes recorded multiple top-three finishes across junior, open and masters events, including wins in singles, pairs and a men's quadruple scull.
The club's community work includes Row for Kids, a partnership regatta supporting the Stollery Children's Hospital Foundation and the rowing club. The provincial association reported that the event had raised more than $1.4 million by 2019.
