About this club
Cornwall Rowing Club is an inclusive recreational and competitive club serving Cornwall and Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry. Its current base is at the corner of Power Dam Drive and Second Street West in Cornwall.
The club incorporated in 2017 and first took to the water in spring 2019. Founder Kevin Donnelly and the board secured a city lease at Guindon Park, while two local Rotary clubs each provided $3,000 towards the start-up.
The city supplied storage containers, and rowing clubs in Brockville, Iroquois and Lachine donated boats. Those donations formed the fleet used by the club's first small group of members.
Several beginners from the inaugural 2019 season progressed from starting in May to racing at an Ottawa regatta that September. The club later added two coastal singles to handle exposed conditions at its original St Lawrence River site.
The present club welcomes high-school students, retirees and other aspiring athletes. It rows from April to the end of October, offers recreational and competitive training, and gives high-school students a free private trial session.
Cornwall joined Ontario Adventure Rowing and sent members to a Rideau touring event. The club's published development plans included youth recruitment, competition and touring.
