About this club
Don Rowing Club of Mississauga is a community club at 25 Front Street North in Port Credit, rowing on the Credit River. It moved to this site in 1960 after more than eight decades at several Toronto waterfront locations.
The Christie brothers established the club beside the Don River in 1878 with Andrew MacFarlane, T. Hogarth and J. Swanson. Its first national title came in 1884 when C. Enright and W. O'Connor won the double at the Canadian Amateur Association of Oarsmen regatta.
After a six-year closure, Don reopened in 1947 with three eights, a quadruple scull and two doubles. By 1951 its crews had won at regattas in Canada and the United States, including six Royal Canadian Henley victories.
The club's alumni include three-time Olympic medallist Silken Laumann, Olympian Heather Hattin, world medallist Michelle Darvill, and 1992 Olympic champion eight members John Wallace and Robert Marland.
Current programmes span youth camps, adult learn-to-row, juniors, under-23s, club rowing, senior and masters competition, Row for Life and youth and adult coastal rowing. The boathouse has an eight-person indoor rowing tank, 30 rowing ergometers, two bike ergometers and three stationary bikes.
Don's free 2026 Come Try Rowing day offered ergometer, tank and on-water experiences for ages ten and over. The club has also hosted the Tony Fooks Regatta, coaching workshops, rowing association meetings and its 140th anniversary gathering.
