About this club
Hatchets Training Centre is the registered not-for-profit rowing club associated with Hatchets Rowing Centre in Port Carling. The organisation rows on the Indian River and publishes its club base at 2 James Bartleman Way.
Kathy McCarthy and Jeremy Fowler established the operation in 2009 at Minett on Lake Rosseau. It moved to Port Carling in 2011, placing rowing in the village centre on the Indian River.
The wider Hatchets programme runs seasonally from May to August and has served about 300 rowers in a typical season. It offers drop-in rowing, junior sculling from age eight through high school, adult fitness rowing and learn-to-row.
High-school and masters athletes can train for competition through the race crew. Hatchets Training Centre membership includes annual Row Ontario and Rowing Canada Aviron registration, and the club enters crews in sanctioned events.
The published race schedule has included Dominion Day, beach sprint, Muskoka and Head of the Trent competition. Coaches keep progress notes so feedback can remain consistent when rowers work with different members of the coaching team.
The distinction between the Centre and Training Centre is functional rather than evidence that the record is not a club. Row Ontario profiles Hatchets as a member organisation, while the club site explicitly identifies Hatchets Training Centre as its registered not-for-profit racing entity.
