About this club
Island Lake Rowing Club is a volunteer community club at Island Lake Conservation Area in Mono, near Orangeville. It works under an agreement with Credit Valley Conservation and welcomes aspiring and experienced rowers.
Volunteers founded the club in 1998. A boathouse opened in 2008, an accessible dock followed in 2011, and a 2014 addition expanded the facility.
The club reports a fleet of more than 30 boats, indoor rowing machines and adaptations for para athletes. Its boathouse and dock are fully accessible, and Row Ontario records para rowing as part of the club's inclusive programme.
Current activities include come-and-try sessions, adult rowing, learn-to-row, youth rowing, crew camps, corporate sessions and para rowing. Earlier club programmes also included high-school rowing, summer youth activity and recreational and competitive adult groups.
Gavin Stone progressed from Island Lake to Canada's national team. Row Ontario also records a club masters athlete winning gold at the 2018 World Rowing Masters Regatta.
Club novices earned two first-place finishes at the Frostbite Sprints after completing learn-to-row. The club's own reporting presents that regatta as an early racing opportunity for members who had recently entered the sport.
