About this club
Kenora Rowing Club is based on Rabbit Lake beside Garrow Beach at 110 Birchwood Crescent. The club has rowed in the Kenora area since 1890, beginning as Rat Portage Rowing Club on Lake of the Woods.
The organisation later moved to Norman Park before relocating to Rabbit Lake in the 1990s. Fundraising, volunteer work and Northern Ontario Heritage Fund support produced a new boathouse beside Garrow Park beach in 1999.
The club offers high-school, student and adult memberships, learn-to-row and flexible monthly or punch-card access. It also runs the Nibikong Indigenous girls rowing camp and lists both training and recreational routes through membership.
Kenora hosted rowing at the 2017 Canada Summer Games on its seven-lane, 2,000-metre course. The club's account says subsequent infrastructure improvements have developed the venue over the following years.
The club normally stages two or three regattas in a season. Its events include the Mantario Rowdown, Tops and Bottoms and the North West International Rowing Association Championship.
In 2025 Kenora hosted the 120th NWIRA Championship, with more than 400 athletes and race officials visiting from across North America. The championship usually brings 300 to 400 athletes from 14 clubs and includes competition for the Lipton Cup.
