Kingston Rowing Club

Kingston Rowing Club rows from 1 Cataraqui Street on Kingston's Inner Harbour. The club reports about 1,000 programme participants in a year, a 9,000-square-foot facility and a fleet of roughly 60 shells.

The present club was formally founded on 2 February 1977 after organising work began in 1976. This organisation is distinct from an earlier Kingston club founded in 1881 that later dissolved.

Kingston won its first gold medal at the 1977 Ontario Summer Games and attended its first major regatta in 1978. A shell house followed in 1980, establishing the facility from which the modern programme developed.

Current pathways include junior and high-school rowing, adult recreation, learn-to-row, competition and masters rowing. Queen's University crews also use the club, connecting community and university rowing at the Inner Harbour site.

Club alumni Mark Evans and Doug Hamilton won Olympic medals, and club athletes also achieved world-level results during the 1980s. The club describes a competitive record extending from local events to Olympic racing.

Kingston has hosted high-school regattas, Ontario championships and beach sprint racing. Row Ontario records the 1981 Ontario championships among the major events held at the club.
