About this club
Muskoka Rowing Club is a non-profit club at Kelvin Grove Park on the Muskoka River in Bracebridge. Its on-water season normally runs from May through October.
Local teachers Bill Dickinson and Jan Olsson helped found the club in 1988. It put its first learn-to-row participants on the water in 1989, acquired its first boat through Chuck Buddo, added a dock in 1990 and built a boathouse in 1992.
The club currently offers adult recreational rowing, youth and student programmes and learn-to-row. Programme fees cover coaching and use of club equipment and the boathouse.
Members can progress from an introductory course into return-to-row or recreational activity. The club's history also records high-school rowing as an important early part of its programme.
Michelle Mellow came through Muskoka's school rowing and was selected as a Canadian Olympic alternate in 1996. Row Ontario includes her progression as a named example from the club's competitive history.
Club crews attend events including the Head of the Trent, while Muskoka runs the Muskoka Fall Classic. These competitive opportunities sit alongside the club's recreational focus on the Muskoka River.
