About this club

Orillia Rowing Club is a community club on Lake Couchiching at Tudhope Park. Its published address is 500 Atherley Road in Orillia.

Tony Kaija, Diane Barr, Heather Driver-Kerslake, Kerrie Pellarin and Marci Csumrik established the club in 1998. It first operated from Champlain Yacht Club at Pumpkin Bay, moved to Tudhope Park in 2000 and added a student rowing programme in 2005.

Current adult options include learn-to-row, recreational team boats and rowing in singles and doubles. The club also offers performance training, youth activity and coastal or beach sprint rowing.

A full youth programme began in 2019, followed by a two-stream performance programme in 2020. Row Ontario also records a varsity rowing arrangement with Lakehead University and intermittent student competition.

Orillia has hosted three regional Jake Gaudaur Tours with Ontario Adventure Rowing, using routes on Lake Couchiching. Club tours also visit Lake Simcoe, the Black and Green rivers, Gravenhurst and Beausoleil Island.

Masters and students have raced at Row Ontario and CORA championships, while club rowers regularly attend the Muskoka Fall Classic and Head of the Trent. The club has also hosted indoor rowing events and an annual member banquet connected with its November annual meeting.
