About this club
Peterborough Rowing Club is based at 3599 Nassau Mills Road in Peterborough, where the Otonabee River meets the Trent Canal beside Trent University. The club provides community access to rowing and works closely with the university’s varsity and novice programmes.
The club was officially formed in 1973 as an offshoot of rowing at Trent University. Its history includes a close association with Carol Love, who stroked Canada’s women’s eight at the 1976 Olympic Games and later became a coach in Peterborough.
Programmes introduce people to rowing and support recreational and competitive development. The club’s public material presents its work as inclusive of all people, while Trent’s novice programme recruits and develops students who are new to the sport.
Peterborough has developed a substantial regatta programme. Its 2023 year-in-review records the spring inter-club event, Peterborough Sprints and the 52nd Head of the Trent, supported by club and university alumni.
The Head of the Trent is hosted through the partnership between the club and Trent University. The club describes it as one of North America’s largest single-day regattas, and its 2023 review called it Canada’s largest head race. Row Ontario has also recognised Peterborough as an Ontario Club of the Year.
