About this club
St. Lawrence Rowing Club is a recreational club in Iroquois, Ontario. It rows from 10586 County Road 2 on the Galop Canal, using an eight-kilometre stretch between Iroquois and Cardinal beside the St. Lawrence River.
The club was established in 2006 by Trish Morrow, a former Trent University varsity rower who had moved to nearby Morrisburg. Its first season involved a small group including local high-school pupils, and it ran its first adult learn-to-row programme in its second year.
St. Lawrence normally maintains a core of 15 to 20 returning rowers and runs one spring learn-to-row course for about ten people. Experienced members row alongside newcomers before the adult recreational season continues through the summer.
Members meet between two and five times each week and use singles, doubles, fours and eights. The club’s published goals for these outings are enjoyment, fitness and improved technique in a low-pressure setting.
Many current members first entered through learn-to-row. The club says some later attend recreational regattas in Ottawa and Peterborough, while regular on-water activity normally runs from May until early October.
