About this club
Thunder Bay Rowing Club is a community non-profit organisation rowing on the Kaministiquia River in Thunder Bay. Its own site traces club activity on the Kaministiquia, Lake Superior and other waters to 1904.
The club offers learn-to-row, high-school and novice routes alongside recreational and competitive rowing. Competitive programmes cover juniors aged 13 to 18, open rowers aged 19 and over, and masters aged 23 and over.
Recreational members can choose coached sessions at different frequencies, while novice rowers progress after completing high-school or learn-to-row instruction. The published on-water season runs from May to the end of October.
Competitive crews prepare for the North West International Rowing Association summer regattas. Depending on programme and selection, athletes may also attend the Row Ontario Championships, Row Ontario Masters Championships, Head of the Trent and other southern Ontario events.
The club hosts the Thunder Bay Sprints on the Kaministiquia River and introduced a Thunder Bay Indoor Rowing Championship in 2025. Thunder Bay Tourism reports that 20 local rowers have been inducted into the Northwestern Ontario Sports Hall of Fame.
