About this club
University of Calgary Rowing Club is a student club founded in 2000. It operates in partnership with Calgary Rowing Club and trains on the Glenmore Reservoir using the Calgary club’s boathouse and fleet.
The programme recruits novices as well as experienced athletes, with intake in September and January. No previous rowing experience is required, although student status and an applicant’s sporting background are considered during selection.
During the on-water season, athletes train at Glenmore Reservoir. The club’s programme also includes campus-based indoor training when crews are off the water.
The club hosts the Dinos Sprints and Head of the Weasel. Its Hall of Fame also records a women’s collegiate four winning bronze at the 2019 Head of the Charles, then gold at the same regatta in 2021.
Dinos alumni have progressed to international competition. Tracy Cameron won Olympic bronze in the lightweight women’s double at Beijing 2008. Mike Belenkie and Bryan Donnelly rowed in Canada’s men’s eight at Sydney 2000, and Jessie L’Outit won Pan American Games silver in the women’s pair in 2019.
