About this club
University of Toronto Rowing Club is the university rowing organisation represented by the Varsity Blues. Row Ontario lists it at 27 King's College Road in Toronto, and the club operates from Hanlan Boat Club in the Toronto Port Lands.
The club was founded on 10 February 1897 and identifies itself as Canada’s oldest university rowing club. Its history covers more than a century of competition by Toronto students and alumni.
The programme includes men’s and women’s crews in openweight and lightweight categories. It serves University of Toronto students from novice level through athletes with Olympic experience.
University records show that a Toronto crew represented Canada at the 1924 Olympic Games in Paris. Historical research in Library and Archives Canada’s catalogue records the club’s Henley successes after the First World War and an Olympic silver medal.
The team competes in Ontario University Athletics and Canadian university championships. Hanlan Boat Club says the university programme joined its shared boathouse in 2000, alongside Upper Canada College and Havergal College.
